In a previous article I have discussed the best methods for teaching children to play the piano. It discusses a number of electronic products that can be downloaded or purchased from the Internet. On the whole, they are designed to teach and develop keyboard skills in an entertaining and amusing way.
With children the question “Why do you want to learn the piano?” doesn’t arise - it’s because your parents want you to. For adults, the situation is very much more complex. It could be for any number of reasons. A long-held yearning to produce music, to (ultimately) make money as a musician, to help you understand and enjoy music more, to join a band or orchestra, to assist your children - the list goes on.

When it comes to New Age piano music, I have a few favorites. In fact, there are really just 2 people that come to mind. And both of them have completely different styles. I’m speaking about George Winston and John Herberman.
George Winston literally put New Age piano music on the map. Of course, there were other’s before Winston who specialized in this genre (namely Steven Halpern) but it was Winston’s album “December” that skyrocketed this style of piano playing into popular culture.

Many individuals can do this. No matter their instrument, they can listen to a song once and play it without hesitation and error free. The rest of us need music, carefully written keys, notes and time signatures as a guide. Perhaps we have neglected our own improvisational education. Arms and legs crossed, I wait patiently for Rhodes’ student classic pianist. Different kinds of people walk past. Is it him? I keep asking myself. In my mind there’s a picture of a hefty man, with broad shoulders and long fingers. Ten minutes later, I see two men approaching. One is casually dressed in a yellow T-shirt and navy blue track pants, and the other is a bit serious; that must be him! But the man in the yellow T-shirt stops in front of me.
